Karyn Dorcak is an established dance instructor and choreographer in the Bay Area. Currently in her 26th year as a faculty member of Marie Stinnett Dance in Campbell, CA., she teaches jazz technique, lyrical, hip-hop, and Zumba Fitness.
She has studied with industry recognized teachers such as Luigi, Phil Black and John Medeiros in New York City, and Jerry Evans, Joe Bennett, and Carol Conners in Los Angeles.
Karyn began her professional dance career at age 16, dancing in stage productions at Marriott’s Great America for three seasons. She has appeared in musicals such as The Music Man, The King and I, and Annie Get Your Gun. Represented by a San Francisco modeling agency, Karyn appeared in Del Monte Foods’ in-store print campaign “There’s No Taste Like Home,” The California Milk Advisory Board’s state-wide billboard campaign “Time For Milk” and in a television commercial for the The Gap.
As a part of her modeling career, Karyn moved to New York City appearing in Women’s Wear Daily, Fit Magazine, and as a runway model for Designer Gowns of New York. She performed with the John Medeiros Jazz Company, including Geoffrey Beene’s fall collection show and in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for Jim Bates Productions.
Upon returning to San Jose, Karyn choreographed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for San Jose Children’s Music Theater. She performed in and choreographed dance sequences for “An Evening with Rich Little” featuring vocalist Paula Mulcahy. During the 1993/94 school year, Karyn led the dance program for Presentation High School’s Performing Arts Department. She has coached Olympic Gold Medal gymnast, Amy Chow and choreographed dance sequences for an NBC Movie of the Week, “Lying Eyes” starring Vince Irizarry and Cassidy Rae.
From 1998 through 2003 she was an instructor for the American Musical Theater of San Jose in their highly acclaimed Theater Artists Institute. In 2005, Karyn taught during the inaugural season for the Musical Theater Conservatory; a joint project of Broadway By The Bay and Notre Dame De Namur University.
Karyn and her husband Dave currently reside in San Jose with their sons James and Mark.
